ERIS Offers "Custom-Build Your Own Reports"!

NEW Faster invoicing begins this month

ERIS is always searching for new ways to improve the level of service it provides to clients. One area of service we have been working on rigorously is invoice frequency.

Currently, ERIS mails out invoices mid-month and at month’s end. Coming in June 2009, however, ERIS will be sending out invoices via email as soon as a client’s request is completed in full. In the event that part of an order needs to be sent via courier to an Ontario-based client, that client will receive two invoices. One will be for the products to which only the GST applies and the other will be for the products to which both the GST and PST are applicable.

Brownfields Breakfast Summit Series

On Wednesday, May 27, 2009, environmental professionals gathered at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Ottawa to hear about the proposed  updates to Ontario Regulation 153/04 pertaining to Brownfields. A wide spectrum of knowledge was passed along. Delegates learned about ministry-recommended timing and processes; the new Tier II modifications; the new risk assessment model; the expedited internal processes to grant a Record of Site Condition; the advantages and complexities of insurance and funding; the changes to laboratory requirements and reporting limits; the grants and loans program available for projects through the Green Municipal Fund; and the benefits of using an ERIS report to assist in meeting the criteria set out in the proposed Record of Site Condition application. Visit our website for more information about upcoming events in this series, or to view the presentations.

Thank-you

Thank-you for taking the time to read this edition of In the Crosshairs.  As always, your feedback is appreciated.  Please send your comments to: mthompson@eris.ca.

Although the majority of the database reports ERIS provides fall within the set menu of standard report types, ERIS is aware that clients will, on occasion, have requirements that differ from those provided in our standard reports — either in shape and size of the study area or with regards to specific database requests. To help satisfy our clients’ needs, ERIS offers "Custom-Build Your Own Reports".

With ""Custom-Build Your Own Reports", clients have the flexibility to set their own radius or buffer size and/or the number of databases searched. This report type is ideal for large or irregularly shaped sites such as watersheds, well head protection areas, road corridors, and large lots for which our standard report radius would not provide sufficient coverage.

When a client requests a Custom Report, a quote order is created along with a map of the subject property. Each site requires a unique quote that is based on the scope of the study area and, therefore, pricing is not known until our quoting formula is applied to the subject site.

Please note that since quotes are time- and labour-intensive, ERIS applies a nominal fee ($25) to quote requests that do not result in an ERIS report order. Should the client proceed with the request, the fee is waived.

What's NEW with the Databases?

Since the last newsletter there have been quite a few database updates, most notably to some of the Generators of Waste databases and Tank databases.
• The Generator database in British Columbia is now updated to the end of 2008.
• In Ontario, the Generator database is updated to March 2009.
• The Record of Site Condition database for Ontario is current up to March 2009.
We’ve also updated our Tank databases in both Alberta and Ontario.
• Our Alberta Tank database has been updated to January 2009.
• Our Ontario TSSA Fuel Storage Tank database is updated to December 2008.

The HWM (Hazardous waste management permits or Les Titulaires de permis - Matières dangereuses résiduelles ) database for Quebec is current up to March 2009.

ERIS’ Atlantic Canada databases have also been updated, including:
• Waste Disposal Sites (May 2007), Off-Shore Wells (March 2009) and Drill Cores (March 2009) for Newfoundland and Labrador.
• Mineral Occurrences (March 2009) and Abandoned Mine Openings (up to 2009) for Nova Scotia.

For more details, please see our website: www.eris.ca. It’s always a good idea to refer to the database listings on ERIS’ website for the most current updates.

Realtor Quest 2009

On May 6-7, 2009, the ERIS Team along with 250 other exhibitors kicked off Canada’s largest Realtor Trade Show and Conference. It was held at the Toronto Congress Centre with an attendance of over 7,000 Realtors.

Realtor Quest 2009 attracted such hosts as Mike Holmes - Canada’s most trusted contractor - and Mayor Hazel McCallion who addressed where property taxes are headed in the GTA.

After a long day of working the trade show floor, attending seminars and networking, the team ended the day at the OREA Center Stage with the member’s reception, live music and entertainment. The ERIS team looks forward to participating in future events with the TREB organization.

ERIS Profile: Isabel Pereira-Peixoto, Regional Services Mgr

Isabel began her career at EcoLog ERIS as a Data Specialist in 2001 after graduating with a double major in Geography and French Studies from York University. She then went on to obtain her Certificate in GIS the following year from Ryerson University and quickly assumed the role of Environmental Information Analyst. With her knowledge of French, Isabel was given the task of collecting environmental data from the province of Quebec and, as a result, was an integral part in ERIS’ expansion to nation-wide coverage in 2002, one year ahead of schedule.

With eight years' experience at ERIS, Isabel has seen the organization grow and become what it is today. Presently, Isabel is the Regional Services Manager for Eastern Canada, a position she has held for the last three years. Part of her responsibilities still include providing high quality reports to clients and to ERIS’ Quebec clientele in particular. She is responsible for maintaining Quebec data as well as the French version of the ERIS website. Just recently, Isabel joined the sales team and is selling to the Quebec and Maritime regions. If you would like to contact Isabel, email her at ipereira@eris.ca or call her at 416-510-5204, ext. 22.
